Health & Safety

In recognition of the risks our people face in their day to day practices on site, SVMA embarked on a significant training programme and have re-written the detail supporting our health and safety policies during the last 2 years and the method statements for the typical scenarios our people face.

The following provides a brief summary of our credentials in health and safety -

National Britannia
SVMA commissioned National Britannia to undertake an independent audit on our management of health and safety. The result of this was that we achieved a satisfactory standard of compliance with Health and Safety Executive Guidance HS (G) 65: Successful Health and Safety Management.

ContractorPlus Accreditation
SVMA have recently successfully achieved accreditation status under the national ContractorPlus scheme, administered by SM&MS.

This accreditation has been awarded following an assessment of our health and safety documentation in comparison to the ContractorPlus standards. This accreditation has been awarded for the following services:

RoSPA
SVMA are also members of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) until June 2013.

As members, we support RoSPA's mission to save lives and reduce injuries; we also benefit from being kept up to date with the latest best practice in safety and accident prevention.

Induction and Method Statements
Personnel who work for SVMA are inducted in accordance with our standard Health and Safety induction procedure.

During this process, the individuals are provided with a detailed method statement for the typical scenarios that they are likely to be faced with. This includes, but is not limited to, working in the following:

NEBOSH
SVMA have engineers that specialise in HVAC systems, electrical systems, lifts, escalators, platforms and cradles who are qualified with NEBOSH General Certificates in Occupational Health and Safety (July 2006 specification).

We are currently appointed as CDM co-ordinators on a large number of projects, including services related projects plus more general construction and refurbishment projects, working alongside professional practices we regularly partner with.

Recognising and managing relevant project risks and communicating to those people who need to know is at the heart of CDM 2007.

The powerful combination of NEBOSH qualified engineers, together with current best practice on all of our CDM related commissions enables SVMA to apply best practice throughout all aspects of our work.
